Oz

By Bill Geist

OzAs Neil Young once sang, “it’s better to burn out than fade away.” And, if you subscribe to this point of view, you appreciate the final days of Ozzy Osbourne.

He performed his farewell concert on July 5 in his hometown…and two weeks later, he transitioned. To where, we will never know.

He positioned himself as the demonic “Prince of Darkness,” but, if his reality show persona was to be believed, he was just a regular guy (not unlike suburban golf-loving Alice Cooper).

And then…this fascinating tale of a cancelled show in Green Bay.

On this Music Friday, we bid farewell to one of the most iconic figures of the Rock Era with a few of our faves:

From the simply insane 1983 US Festival: Crazy Train.

The Lennon-esque turn: Dreamer.

And, my favorite, his duet with Lita Ford: Close My Eyes Forever.
