4. Data Security
We implement appropriate security measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure.
5. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to enhance your experience on our Service. You can control cookie settings through your browser preferences, though disabling cookies may affect Service functionality.
6. Third-Party Services
Our Service may contain links to third-party websites or integrate with third-party services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third parties. We encourage you to review their privacy policies.
Ask Adam (AI assistant)
Ask Adam uses two third-party AI services. Your question, with the one before it, is sent to OpenAI to find the passages of Adam's material that answer it. Anthropic then writes the answer: we send it your question, the earlier messages in that conversation, and, if they are on your profile, your job title, organization and location, so the answer fits your role. We do not send your email address, contact details or messages with other members. We ask for your permission before your first question, and you can delete your Ask Adam history at any time by closing your account.
7. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as necessary to provide our Service and fulfill the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy. We may retain certain information for longer periods to comply with legal obligations or resolve disputes.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account yourself at any time, from Settings on the website or from the Account screen in the TourismIQ app. We do not require you to email us or give a reason.
When you ask us to delete your account, it is hidden from the community immediately: your profile stops appearing in the member directory, in search and at its own address, and you are signed out on every device. Your data is then held for 30 days before it is permanently deleted. That window exists so that an account closed by mistake — or by someone other than you — can be recovered. Signing in during those 30 days and choosing “Keep my account” restores everything exactly as it was. After 30 days the deletion is permanent and cannot be reversed by us or by you.
When the deletion runs, we permanently delete:
- Your account, sign-in credentials and active sessions
- Your profile, including your photos, bio, job details and links
- Your connections, saved items, upvotes and notifications
- Your registered devices and any Ask Adam conversation history
Some things are anonymised rather than deleted. Articles, comments, forum questions and answers you posted remain on the site, reattributed to “Deleted member” with your name, photo and profile link removed. Messages you sent remain in the recipient’s inbox on the same basis. We do this because other members replied to and relied on that content, and removing it would delete their contributions too.
We also retain records of payments and transactions for as long as tax, accounting and anti-fraud law requires. These are held by our payment processor, are not linked to a profile once your account is deleted, and are not visible to other members.
A few situations prevent an account being closed until they are resolved, because closing it would affect someone else: owning a listing in the vendor directory, an active or unpaid subscription, a booked or running sponsorship, or being the only owner of an organization. We tell you which applies and what to do about it, and you can close the account as soon as it is resolved.
8. Your Rights and Choices
You have the right to:
- Access and update your personal information
- Request deletion of your personal information
- Opt out of marketing communications

To exercise these rights, please contact us using the information provided below.

10. Children's Privacy
Our Service is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us immediately.
11. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date.
12. Government and Public-Record Information
Added September 2026. Parts of the Service report tourism funding information about states, municipalities and other public bodies — lodging-tax revenue, allocations, unspent balances, statutory spending rules and grant programs. This information comes from government publications and public records, not from our members, and it concerns public bodies and their finances rather than individuals.
We reproduce this information as published, with a link to its source. We do not estimate, adjust or audit it. Where a source publishes a name that identifies an individual rather than an office, we do not reproduce it. If you believe information we have published about a public body is inaccurate or should not appear, use the correction link shown with it or write to [email protected].
Figures about a specific organization
Where we hold figures about a particular municipality or destination organization, those figures are private by default. They are visible only to members of that organization’s own team on the Service, and only aggregate totals that name nobody are shown publicly.
They become public under an organization’s name only if a member of that organization’s team elects to publish them. Our staff cannot make that election on an organization’s behalf, and no automated process sets it. When the election is made or withdrawn we record which member did it, when, and the exact wording they were shown, and we email the organization’s other team members. We keep that record for as long as we operate the Service, because it is the evidence that the publication was the organization’s own choice; it is visible only to our administrators. This record is retained even if the member who made the election later closes their account — it evidences a decision taken on behalf of an organization rather than personal activity, and an organization cannot be left unable to show what it agreed to because an employee has since left. If you believe a retained record is inaccurate, write to [email protected]. Section 13 of the Terms of Use sets out the terms of the election, including the limits of withdrawal.
Automated processing
We use automated tools, including third-party AI services, to read published government pages and draft summaries of them for a person to review. What we send to those services is public web content and public records. We do not send your personal information, your private organization data, or anything you have not published to an AI service in order to produce this public funding information, and no automated decision is made about you or your organization by that processing. Where those tools help you prepare an application using information you have entered yourself, that is described in section 6 (Third-Party Services).
13. Grant Readiness Information
Added September 2026. An organization’s team can keep a grant readiness profile on the Service: its legal name and entity type, mission and goals, staff and budget figures, the names and titles of its board, leadership and signatories, and a checklist of the items grant applications ask for. It is visible only to that organization’s team and to our administrators, and is never shown publicly.
We do not collect or store tax identification numbers, SAM.gov numbers, bank or account details, passwords, or copies of documents. For each checklist item the profile records only whether your team has it on hand, the date that decides whether it is current, and a note on where your team keeps it. A note that appears to contain a tax ID, Social Security number, account or routing number, or password is refused when you save it. Please do not enter such information elsewhere in the profile either.
When your team asks the Service to draft part of an application, the profile’s contents are sent to our AI provider, Anthropic, to write that draft. Your team can edit the profile at any time from your organization’s page; to have it deleted, write to [email protected].
