Let’s Slowly Float Downstream in Tennessee

By Laurie Jo Miller Farr

Tennessee is encouraging a slow travel trend.

According to an announcement from the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development on TNVacation.com, the initiative promotes destinations that highlight rest, reflection, and connection with nature and local culture.

In East Tennessee, Great Smoky Mountains National Park offers more than 800 miles of trails for those seeking quiet time outdoors. Nearby, Blackberry Farm, a wellness retreat that will mark its 50th anniversary in 2026, and the recently opened Carriage House Spa at the RT Lodge in Maryville provide additional opportunities for rest and relaxation.

In Middle Tennessee, Leiper’s Fork features local art galleries, antique shops, and community-oriented hospitality. The state highlights destinations such as The Copper Fox, Leiper’s Creek Gallery, and Leiper’s Fork Distillery for travelers interested in arts, culture, and local craftsmanship. Southall Farm & Inn in Franklin also provides wellness-focused accommodations.

West Tennessee offers both cultural and natural escapes. Memphis’ Stax Museum of American Soul Music explores the history of American music, while Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park offers outdoor recreation in a peaceful setting. Visitors can also relax at The Peabody Hotel’s Feathers Spa, which features wellness and aromatherapy treatments.
