“On Tuesday of last week, before the order was given to cut 10% of flight volume, we fielded our Monthly American Travel Sentiment tracking tool using the same methodology. We asked two specific questions about the Federal Government Shutdown.

Bottom Line:  One third (32%) of American travelers have indicated that their travel plans have already been impacted by the Federal Government shutdown. Of that 32%,  here is how it has impacted their travel plans thus far:

  • I postponed my trip(s) to a later date — 45%
  • I decided to drive instead of fly — 31%
  • I shortened the duration of my trip(s) — 27%
  • I changed the destination or itinerary of my trip(s) — 25%
  • I canceled my trip(s) — 19%
  • Other — 2%
