“Don’t Plan a Trip to Dublin, Ohio Just Go.”

Visit Dublin has a new no-plan plan to encourage regional visitors to spend 48 hours in the destination. The DMO suggests,”Looking for a stress-free getaway without all the planning? You’re in luck. Dublin, Ohio offers the mix of inexpensive fun, walkability, and spur-of-the-moment adventure you’ve been searching for. Conveniently located minutes from Columbus and just a few hours’ drive from many midwestern cities…”

Marketing Director Sara Blatnik says “In a season filled with ‘Plan Your Trip’ and ‘Book Your Visit’ messaging from destinations, the ‘Don’t Plan’ message was a breath of fresh air. “At agency Cornett, Group Creative Director Jason Majewski said, “Planning a family trip can feel like work. So, we flipped a familiar call to action and didn’t mix the message: in Dublin, unplanning is the new planning.”

Main Street Maine

Maine Downtown Center, a program of Maine Development Foundation, is spearheading “community tourism experiences” initiative with funding provided by a  Maine Office of Tourism Marketing and Development Recovery Grant. To emphasize that Maine’s downtowns offer more than scenic views and fresh lobster, the community tourism program strives to create meaningful connections between travelers and local communities.

Project planning was aided by Toronto-based Planeterra Foundation, a nonprofit tourism consultant that worked with the towns to design experiences that promote the culture and history of each community.

The Maine Downtown Center’s “community tourism” program includes a sail out of Rockland Harbor with a shore stop at a traditional boatbuilding workshop.

Paul Nursey, President & CEO, Destination Greater Victoria reports on how a new project to reduce single-use plastic came about. With eight participating hotels, it’s estimated that this could eliminate more than 150,000 single-use plastic water bottles annually. Steal this idea!

“I am very pleased to see this concrete and measurable sustainability initiative start to roll out. This good idea had its origins with passionate hoteliers within the Hotel Association of Greater Victoria who then passed it over to Destination Greater Victoria’s Sustainability Advisory Committee to recommend to the DGV Board. This project has both a physical plant improvement component and a communications component ensuring that marketing platforms are created to identify the refill stations installed from this program along with existing refill stations are profiled to guests and residents alike so that visitors and locals can explore our destination knowing where they can refill their water bottle.” Press release here.

What to do when you have no manatees but plenty of mimosas? Make a Richmond Region Mimosa Trail, that’s what. The DMO suggests, “This self-guided tour features restaurants that offer traditional mimosas, mimosa flights, fun flavors like pineapple and pomegranate, and even a Beermosa!” Plus, there’s swag to be earned along the way.
