Visit Mississippi has unveiled a new blues trail marker at the iconic Cavern Club in Liverpool, England. The historic venue hosted countless musicians and bands since the 1960s, including many Mississippi blues icons.
In its heyday, the club was a launching pad for The Beatles and remains a pilgrimage site for music fans from around the globe. The connection between the blues and rock ‘n’ roll is undeniable, with many British rock musicians citing blues artists as their primary influences.The marker pays homage to the rich heritage of blues music. and the blues legends that originated from the Mississippi Delta: B.B. King, Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, and Elvis.
Julia Lennon Baird, sister of John Lennon, the Lord Mayor of Liverpool and John Keats unveiled this historic marker. The marker was presented to an enthusiastic crowd of music lovers and travel media, along with representatives from Visit Mississippi, the Mississippi Blues Commission, Mississippi tourism partners and the incredible team at Travel & Tourism Marketing.
This initiative, seven years in the making, is part of a broader effort to promote the Mississippi Blues Trail, which celebrates the state’s rich musical heritage while fostering international cultural connections. The trail features numerous markers throughout Mississippi, each telling the story of influential blues musicians and the places that shaped the genre.
