Some people say it sounds like a clearance sale. Other people, including New Zealand’s Tourism Minister and Prime Minister, support it.

Tourism New Zealand has introduced a marketing campaign aimed at recovery, to get visitor numbers back to pre-pandemic levels from its #1 international market, Australia. Currently, Australian visitors to New Zealand are about 88% of 2019 levels. The $500,000 campaign will run for the next month on social media and radio.

Note: The Government almost tripled the International Visitor Levy, a tax on tourists visiting New Zealand, last year. When the Government announced its plan to raise the levy from $35 to $100 per visitor, some cautioned it may scare off tourists by significantly raising the cost for families to visit New Zealand.
