The Dominican Republic hosted its fourth annual Trade Show in Miami, convening more than 1,200 travel industry professionals from across the U.S., Canada, and Latin America. According to the Ministry of Tourism, the sector contributed an estimated $15 billion to national GDP in the prior year, supporting 479,722 jobs and generating $5.236 billion in net external income.

The show drew over 100 exhibitors, produced more than 1,800 scheduled business appointments, and highlighted expanded focus areas including luxury travel, cruise and nautical tourism, sports and adventure tourism, MICE and business events, gastronomy, medical tourism, and eco-cultural experiences.

Why it matters

For U.S. DMOs, the Dominican Republic’s structured Miami showcase is worth paying attention to as a peer playbook. A destination with clearly reported economic impact numbers, a multi-segment expansion strategy, and a repeatable annual buyer-meeting event is the same operating model an increasing number of U.S. state tourism offices and large metros are moving toward.

The event also underscores how aggressively Caribbean and Latin American destinations are marketing into the U.S. traveler segment at exactly the moment international inbound travel to the U.S. is softening. U.S. Travel Association forecasts have pointed to ongoing pressure on inbound demand through 2026 — and outbound demand from U.S. leisure travelers is increasingly the prize every nearby destination is competing for.
