Destination Canada has launched a national Tourism Investment Hub, an online platform built to connect investors, communities, and tourism partners with capital, incentives, and development opportunities across the country. The national tourism marketing organization framed the hub as a long-term play to grow the sector rather than a short-term campaign.

The piece drawing the most attention is an AI-powered Funding Identification System, developed in partnership with the funding-discovery firm Fundica. The tool maps grants, tax credits, and financing programs available at the federal, provincial, and municipal levels, then helps users match a project to the incentives it might qualify for. For communities and operators that have historically spent weeks hunting down the right program, that surfacing work is the point.

Destination Canada situates the effort against some sizable numbers: tourism contributes more than $364 million daily to over 5,000 communities nationwide and generated $32.7 billion in municipal, provincial, and federal tax revenue in 2024, with the organization projecting the sector could reach $216 billion in annual revenue by 2035.

Why It’s Landing Now

The timing tracks with a broader Canadian push to diversify the economy and lean into tourism as a home-grown export. Destination Canada’s own 2026-2035 outlook, prepared with Tourism Economics, forecasts visitor spending climbing to roughly $140.9 billion in 2026. It positions tourism as a meaningful contributor to the country’s goal of adding hundreds of billions in non-US exports over the next decade.

An investment hub is a different animal from a marketing campaign. It points the organization’s brand and data toward capital formation and product development, the parts of a destination that visitors never see but that ultimately shape what there is to market in the first place.

Whether a matchmaking platform meaningfully moves private investment is the open question, and it will take a few funding cycles to answer. But the model, a national tourism body acting as a connector between projects and money, is one worth watching as budgets tighten elsewhere across North America.
