4200 Posts Later
It started innocently enough. My friend Robert Ian started blogging in 2006 and encouraged me to dive in. And in September of that year, I did.
That was 4,200 posts ago…garnering almost 415,000 page views.
I don’t think Robert blogs anymore. I clearly didn’t get the memo.
For about as long as I’ve known him, Brand Revolt’s Adam Stoker has urged his clients (and anybody who would listen) not to rely on digital platforms to host their content. “You’re renting space,” he would say. “You should own your content.”
And, that concept came home to roost last week when the blog platform we’ve used since 2006 announced they would be going dark at the end of this month…taking with them all 4,200 posts and the over 3,000 comments that some of you have offered over the years. Kaput, gone…vanished.
But, maybe this isn’t the worst thing. We have a number of other options with which to share content today that we didn’t enjoy then. When I departed Twitter when the Muskateer purchased it, I didn’t feel a blip. Will it be the same with this blog? After all, I can still post articles on LinkedIn and Music Friday posts on Facebook…both platforms that provide more visibility than this blog.
The only thing I really lose is the treasure trove of 4,200 posts from the last 19 years. And, that’s a damn shame.
But, we’ll figure it out.
And, for our readers and subscribers…thanks for joining us on this ride. It’s been fun.
