TikTok got another reprieve Thursday (June 19, 2025) as President Donald Trump signed an executive order letting the social media platform continue operating in the U.S. for 90 more days.
The extension to Sept. 17, 2025 is in defiance of the bipartisan law passed in 2024 and upheld by the Supreme Court that gave TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, until Jan. 19, 2025 to divest.
It’s the third time The White House has extended the deadline for TikTok’s China-based owner. While no buyer has emerged, multiple parties have signaled interest. There’s no clear legal basis for the extensions, but so far there have been no challenges to them.
